Two months ago, the RSPCA and Cats Protection made a joint call for cat cafes to be phased out, saying that it was "almost impossible" for them to guarantee the animals' welfare.

The charities said that while they understood the appeal of cat cafes, the welfare of the animals had to come first.

They urged anyone thinking of visiting a cat cafe to consider whether the cats were being kept in suitable conditions.
